A Romantic Escape at One of Switzerland’s Most Iconic Hotels

In May, my husband and I spent a few days at this legendary hotel in the heart of Interlaken. A place I had driven past countless times before, always wondering what it would be like to stay at one of Switzerland’s most iconic hotels.

This time, I finally found out.

And the moment we arrived, I knew this stay would be special…

A Swiss Icon Since 1865

Standing proudly on Interlaken’s famous Höheweg, Victoria-Jungfrau has been welcoming guests since 1865.

What many people don’t know is that it actually started as two separate hotels: Hotel Victoria and Hotel Jungfrau. The two buildings were later connected, creating the grand palace hotel we know today.

Over the decades, royalty, artists, politicians, and travellers from around the world have stayed here.

And somehow, despite its rich history, the hotel never feels stuck in the past.

That’s something I always appreciate in historic hotels.

You can feel the heritage.

But you can still enjoy all the comforts of today.

Our Deluxe Junior Suite

Bright. Elegant. Comfortable.

We stayed in a Deluxe Junior Suite, which offered plenty of space to relax after long days exploring the Bernese Oberland.

Soft colours.

Beautiful details.

Large windows filling the room with natural light.

The Spa: 5,500 Square Metres of Relaxation

If there’s one thing Victoria-Jungfrau is known for besides its history, it’s the spa.

And for good reason.

The Nescens Spa spans an impressive 5,500 square metres and is one of the largest hotel spas in Switzerland.

Inside, you’ll find a beautiful indoor pool beneath a striking glass roof, various wellness facilities, treatment rooms, fitness areas, and outdoor spaces to unwind.

The atmosphere feels calm and unhurried.

Exactly what a luxury spa should be.

My husband and I spent a few wonderfully lazy hours here, moving between the pool/s, a relaxing massage, and simply doing absolutely nothing.

A luxury in itself.

A Hotel That Welcomes Families Too

While Victoria-Jungfrau is perfect for couples, it’s also incredibly family-friendly.

One feature I thought was particularly lovely is the hotel’s dedicated children’s club called the “Bienehuus”.

Designed for children aged 3 to 12, it offers games, creative activities, and plenty of space for younger guests to have their own adventures while parents enjoy some well-deserved downtime.

It’s always nice to see luxury hotels creating experiences for every generation.

Dinner at Sapori

One evening, we enjoyed dinner at Ristorante e Pizzeria Sapori.

Located within the historic hotel, the restaurant brings a little piece of Italy to the Bernese Oberland.

The atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming.

Italian classics.

Good wine.

And excellent company.

Honestly, that’s a pretty perfect combination.

La Terrasse Brasserie

On our last evening, we enjoyed dinner at La Terrasse Brasserie.

The atmosphere felt elegant yet relaxed, with soft lighting, beautiful interiors, and a warm, welcoming feel.

We started with the white asparagus soup and popcorn shrimp.

For the main course, lamb chops and pepper steak were perfectly cooked and full of flavour.

To finish, we shared a New York Cheesecake and a Coupe Denmark.

Simple dishes made with great ingredients and attention to detail.

Just the way I like it.

A lovely dinner, great food, and the perfect way to end our wonderful few days at Victoria-Jungfrau.

Final Thoughts

Honestly?

I can completely understand why Victoria-Jungfrau has become such a Swiss icon.

The views, the spa, the history, the food…

It was the kind of stay that reminded me why I love what I do. Discovering beautiful places and creating memories along the way.

And that’s usually when I know a hotel has done something right.

Until next time, Victoria-Jungfrau. 🤍

Fresh orange juice, in-room breakfast on our balcony, and the Jungfrau rising 4,158 metres into the sky.

One of my favourite memories from our stay. ✨
